Coffee and smoothies have always been separate breakfast staples for me. I’m the kind of person who needs a warm cup of coffee to kickstart the day – whether I’m watering the garden, getting the kids ready for school, or diving into my morning workout. But recently, I started wondering: what if I combined the two into one energizing, post-workout Coffee Protein Smoothie?

Lately, I’ve been loving making homemade smoothies and have been experimenting with all kinds of flavour combinations (check out my Smoothie Basics: A Beginners Guide to Making Delicious Blends at Home). As a lover of both beverages, I instinctively set out to try a combination of the two.
Smoothie Basics
Every smoothie starts with a solid base. Since this is a protein-packed, post-workout blend, these are the ingredients I recommend:
- High-Protein Greek Yogurt – I like High Protein Plain | Oikos Canada
- Chocolate Protein Powder – I’m using Gold Standard 100% Whey Protein | Optimum Nutrition US which comes in a wide variety of flavours
- Cold Brewed Coffeed – Use leftover coffee
Add-Ins
- 1 Ripe Bananas – for natural sweetness and creaminess
- 1 Cup of Ice Cubes – helps create a thicker, frostier texture
Optional Replacements & Upgrades
- Swap plain Greek Yogurt for Vanilla or Mocha-flavoured Greek yogurt (like Liberte Mocha 9% which has 5g of protein per serving)
- Add 1 tbsp cocoa powder for a more intense chocolate flavour
- Splash in Vanilla Oat milk (I like Earth’s Own Oat Vanilla) for a smoother blend
- Try replacing both the coffee and protein powder wtih a ready-to-drink protein coffee like Protein Coffee – brüst for extra convenience.
This Coffee Protein Smoothie is the perfect post-workout blend — a high-protein yogurt breakfast and your daily caffeine fix in one delicious, easy-to-make glass. It’s ideal for busy mornings or refueling after a workout, and it’s easy to customize to suit your taste. If you give it a try, let me know in the comments or share your version on Pinterest or Instagram — I’d love to see how you make it your own!
